GeoS-Room 2025 – HAGI Student Chapter UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Explores Machine Learning for Future Energy Exploration

On Thursday, July 10th, 2025, the Indonesian Association of Geophysicists (HAGI) Student Chapter of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta successfully held GeoS-Room 2025, a hybrid seminar themed “Machine Learning in Geophysics for Resource Exploration”. The event drew enthusiastic participants from various academic backgrounds, all keen to explore the intersection of advanced technology and geophysics. The presentations introduced machine learning applications in the sustainable energy industry, showcased a 3D seismic data case study from Penobscot (offshore Nova Scotia), and detailed data conditioning workflows using Blueback Avary (destriping, denoising, spectral decomposition).

Further discussion included feature engineering with seismic attributes (amplitude, impedance, sweetness, waveform classifier), supervised learning models (Extra Trees, Linear Regression) to predict Gamma Ray, and model evaluation using blind well B-41. The seminar also featured ML integration through Cegal Prizm and Petrel plug-ins for geoscience interpretation. Participants actively engaged in discussions on AI challenges in geosciences and the role of seismic attributes in lithology prediction. The event concluded by emphasizing the critical need for mastering cutting-edge technologies to address future energy exploration challenges, followed by symbolic certificate presentations to both speakers and attendees.
