Studium General of Biology Study Program FST UIN Jakarta: Solving Social Problems with Technical Solutions - Insights from Assoc. Prof. Thomas Groen
The Biology Study Program of the Faculty of Science and Technology of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a Studium General entitled “How to Solve Social Problems with Technical Solutions - An Example of the Usage of Spatial Data” on November 19, 2024 at the FST Theater, 2nd Floor. The event presented an international speaker, Assoc. Prof. Thomas Groen from the University of Twente, the Netherlands, who explained the importance of integrating three fields of science-spatial planning governance, technical engineering, and spatial information-in solving wicked problems, such as urban spatial planning and disaster mitigation. Prof. Groen emphasized that this multidisciplinary approach is key to creating sustainable solutions.
In addition to discussing the application of these disciplines, Prof. Groen also introduced the University of Twente's flagship master's program, which is designed to produce graduates with innovative capabilities in facing global challenges. The participants, consisting of students, lecturers, and researchers, enthusiastically welcomed the discussions and academic opportunities presented in this event. This Studium General is a strategic step in expanding the horizons and international networks of the Biology Study Program of FST UIN Jakarta.
