Studium Generale of Physics Study Program Discusses Innovation Doesn't Need to be Expensive: Prof. Dr. Isnaeni Emphasizes the Importance of Laser and LED Development in Industry
On September 5, 2024, the Physics Study Program at FST UIN Jakarta held a Studium Generale titled "INNOVATION DOES NOT HAVE TO BE EXPENSIVE" at the 2nd Floor, Theater Room of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), with Prof. Dr. Isnaeni, S.Si, M.Sc. as the speaker. The event was attended by the Dean of FST, Husni Teja Sukmana, S.T, M.Sc. Ph.D., the Head of the Physics Study Program, M. Nafian, M.Si, physics lecturers, as well as 150 first and third semester students. Prof. Isnaeni presented on laser and LED theories, discussing the broad applications of these technologies in electronics components, monitor screens, and weaponry. He also emphasized that innovation does not always have to be expensive, citing research examples that use simple materials, such as processing sugar to produce quantum dots that can be used in LEDs.
During the Q&A session, which was divided into two parts, participants actively interacted with the speaker. Several interesting questions were raised, such as the challenge of LED lifespan, the integration of R&D into BRIN, and the impact of light pollution. Prof. Isnaeni explained that although there are solutions to extend LED lifespan, the industry often rejects them due to economic reasons. He also noted that all R&D organizations, except defense R&D, have been integrated into BRIN. Regarding light pollution, the speaker mentioned that light pollution negatively affects living organisms, and one way to mitigate it is by adjusting lamp colors according to needs. The speaker also discussed the potential for geophysics research at BRIN and the importance of managing LED waste to minimize environmental impact. This event became an inspiring platform for participants, encouraging them to continue innovating in the fields of science and technology.
