Symposium of Agribusiness Study Program-UIN Jakarta Realizing Sustainable Agriculture, UIN Jakarta Agribusiness Encourages the Use of Eco Enzyme
The Agribusiness Study Program of the Faculty of Science and Technology UIN Jakarta successfully organized the Propactani National Symposium with the theme "Sustainable Agriculture: Utilization of Eco Enzyme" on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. The symposium activity is in collaboration with the Directorate General of Food Crops of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia and Indonesian Farmer Youth which is divided into two sessions. The first session began with a presentation on sustainable agriculture and the utilization of eco enzyme by the Professors of the Faculty of Science and Technology UIN Jakarta. Then, the second session continued with the presentation of the research results of UIN Jakarta Agribusiness Students.
The Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology UIN Jakarta welcomed the National Symposium organized by the Agribusiness Study Program. "Today's activities are very good, the hope is that this cooperation can continue because it is very useful in providing information to all of us and hopefully the material presented can be truly realized" said Husni Teja Sukmana, M.Sc., Ph.D.
The same thing was also conveyed by the Secretary General of DPP Pemuda Tani Indonesia, Sonny Suroyo, M.Si in his speech. "Pemuda Tani Indonesia as an organization that focuses on the agricultural sector is certainly eager to innovate in advancing Indonesian agriculture, one of which is the application of eco enzymes that can support sustainable agriculture" he said in the Propaktani National Symposium.
In the delivery via zoom meeting, Dr. Ir. Suwandi as Director General of Food Crops of the Ministry of Agriculture explained that the use of eco enzyme can minimize the use of chemicals. "Eco enzyme made from natural ingredients by utilizing waste can encourage organic farming and reduce the use of chemicals, because starting from fertilizers to pesticides are obtained from natural ingredients," said the Director General of Food Crops of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The three speakers of the Propaktani National Symposium explained the importance of transformation towards sustainable agriculture to save the environment, as explained by Prof. Dr. Achmad Tjahja Nugraha, M.P "The agricultural sector is currently required to be able to meet the food needs of so many humans, the methods used also vary and have begun to move towards an agricultural growth approach with a circular economy model that emphasizes three aspects, reducing waste, protecting the environment, and reusing leftover materials" he said through a zoom meeting. The circular economy model approach is the most suitable choice, because previously the linear economy approach was considered to use too many resources and the impact on the environment was also not good.
Then, Prof. Dr. Lily Surayya Eka Putri, M. Env. Stud explained that the purpose of making eco enzyme is to reduce organic waste. "The purpose of making eco enzyme is to manage organic waste in an environmentally friendly way and to improve environmental quality, organic waste that is generally utilized is leftover fruit peels and vegetable scraps and other organic waste" she explained as a resource person. Furthermore, UIN Jakarta is also focusing on developing eco enzyme into several products, such as biodisinfectant, cleaner, bioremediator, and biostimulant.
Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Rochaeni, M.Si said that eco enzyme can be used in several aspects of life, not only in agriculture. "Eco enzyme as a result of fermentation from organic waste can be utilized in several aspects. The first aspect is in agriculture as organic fertilizer and fruit preservative. The second aspect is as personal care, such as mouthwash, hand sanitizers, shampoos, etc. The third aspect is as household chores, such as washing dishes, washing clothes, cleaning floors, and there are many more benefits of eco enzyme that can be researched," said Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Rochaeni, M.Si.
Seeing the enthusiasm of the participants who attended offline and online with a total of more than 500 participants, UIN Jakarta Agribusiness Study Program believes that the material presented can be very useful and hopes that more other useful activities will be held.
