UIN Jakarta Biology Study Programme Holds Public Lecture on Macaca Conservation with YIARI
The Biology Study Program of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a public lecture entitled "Knowledge of Macaca Genus Conservation in Indonesia and Research Recommendations" on Wednesday, 10 September 2025 at the 2nd Floor Theater Room of FST. This activity presented Elisabet R.R.B. Hutabarat, S.Si., M.Si., Assistant Manager of Macaca Conservation from Yayasan Inisiasi Alam Rehabilitasi Indonesia (YIARI), and was attended by lecturers, students, and representatives of primate-watching organisations.
In her presentation, Elisabet reviewed the conservation status of various Macaca species in Indonesia, the challenges of habitat protection, and the threat of illegal trade. She also emphasised the importance of research on ecology, genetics, and human-animal conflict mitigation. YIARI opened opportunities for research collaboration and provided Macaca conservation research scholarships for students, as well as organising a popular writing competition to raise public awareness. Through this activity, UIN Jakarta affirms its role in supporting endemic animal conservation and encourages students to actively contribute to the conservation of Indonesia's biodiversity.
