The Mining Engineering Student Association of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta hosted the VARVA 2024 National Seminar on October 24, 2024, at the Harun Nasution Auditorium, Ciputat. This seminar, themed “The Prospects of Sustainable Mining in Indonesia,” marked the culmination of the VARVA HITAM 2024 series, celebrating the 8th anniversary of the Mining Association.

The seminar aimed to educate mining engineering students from across Indonesia and the general public about the challenges and opportunities in implementing sustainable mining practices. It also sought to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability in the mining sector as a contribution to Indonesia's environmentally friendly development.

The VARVA 2024 National Seminar featured renowned speakers in the mining sector, including:

• Ir. Priyadi Sutarso, Chairman of the Indonesian Coal Mining Association (APBI) and President Director of PT Adaro Indonesia.
• Ir. Rizal Kasli, S.T., IPU., ASEAN Eng, Chairman of the Indonesian Mining Professionals Association (PERHAPI).
• Ir. Wisnu Salman, ST., IPM., ASEAN Eng., C. EIA, Director of PT Geo Mining Berkah.

In addition to the seminar, the event announced the winners of the 2024 National Mining Student Competition, the first mining planning competition organized by the Mining Engineering Student Association of UIN Jakarta. The first prize was awarded to Hasanuddin University, the second prize to Sriwijaya University, and the third prize to UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.
