Field Course Batch #1 Mining Engineering in Ciletuh-Pelabuhanratu UNESCO Global Geopark
The Mining Engineering Study Program of FST UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has conducted the first Geological Field Study (Kuliah Lapangan 1) for second-semester students of the 2024 cohort. Held from June 16 to 20, 2025, the field trip involved 95 students exploring the Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu UNESCO Global Geopark. As a compulsory course in the Mining Engineering curriculum, this activity was designed to provide students with direct exposure to geological phenomena and rock formations in one of Indonesia’s renowned geological heritage areas.
Through observation-based and exploratory learning approaches, students were introduced to geological structures, landscape formation processes, and the importance of geoconservation. This field study is also expected to foster environmental awareness and deepen the students’ academic understanding by allowing them to apply geological concepts in a real-world setting. Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu, with its UNESCO Global Geopark designation, served as an ideal natural laboratory for enriching the learning experience of future mining engineers.
