Learning Immunity, from the Classroom to the Laboratory: UIN Jakarta Biology Students’ Field Trip to the Subang Veterinary Center

Immunology students from the Biology Study Program at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) successfully conducted a field trip to the Subang Veterinary Center (B-Vet) on Thursday, July 9, 2026. The event officially began with opening remarks from the Head of the Subang Veterinary Center (Dr. Putut Eko Wibowo) and the immunology lecturer (Dr. R.R. Bhintarti Suryohastari, M. Biomed.), followed by an introduction to the Subang Veterinary Center and a tour of several of its facilities. The Biotechnology Laboratory with BSL 2+ facilities, as well as the Serology, Microbiology, and Virology Labs—which house Specific Antibody Negative (SAN) eggs—served as the study visit locations. Interactions with the professional staff at B-Vet Subang provided insights into the role of immunology in the diagnosis of animal diseases and public-veterinary health surveillance, and served as a bridge for the students to understand the future challenges of immunology research. Through hands-on field learning, this study visit served not only as a supplement to classroom instruction but also as a means for students to connect immunological concepts with their practical application in the professional world.
